PLEASE NOTE: AS OF 2022, THE GLOUCESTER RAILWAY CARRIAGE AND WAGON MUSEUM IS CLOSING AND IS CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF FOLLOWING THE CHARITY COMMISSIONS PROCEDURE FOR CLOSING A CHARITABLE INCORPORATED ORGANISATION (CIO).

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE FOLLOWING AND SUPPORT.

Welcome to the home of the Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Museum CIO

The Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Museum was founded on the 25th March 2016 and became a registered Charity on the 30th September 2020.

The object of the CIO is: “To advance the education of the public in the history of the railway and general transport heritage of the United Kingdom, with special reference to the Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Company Limited from 1860 to 1986 and industrial and light railways in the Gloucester area, in particular but not exclusively by the creation and operation of a museum and owning, repairing, constructing and preserving railway heritage, coaching stock and associated artefacts for the use and appreciation of the public”.

Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Museum is staffed by volunteers, some of which have been involved with railways and transport since the British Railways in the 1960's. Come and visit (once premises have been acquired), ask questions and learn about the history of the Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Company Limited and associated organisations. We aim to preserve the past and inspire the future.

Learn about our exhibits and artefacts

Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Museum has a wide range of artefacts, relics and its first item of rolling stock currently awaiting restoration.

The Museum is currently a portable mobile travelling museum, but there is no substitute for a physical museum where you can visit and speak to knowledgeable volunteers and ask any questions you may have, so every effort is being made to acquire a plot of land or premises for the Museum to set up a base of operations and therefore at this current stage the Museum Collection is currently available to view online.

Visit our Rolling Stock, Footplates and Cabs

Once premises have been acquired we will be offering timed guided tours of many vehicles in our collection including our first item of rolling stock LMS Ventilated Goods Van M187085. Please note that due to limited space and access, some vehicles may not be suitable for small children, disabled guests or those with claustrophobia.

Support our work

The museum and our restoration work is run entirely by volunteers and financed by charitable donations.

We need donations, funding, parts for restoration and willing volunteers

Think you could help? We'd love to hear from you.
